According to research, all imperforate stamps of this issue are unauthorized productions by forgers after the original printer went out of business in 1990. No legitimate error stamps were produced.

These illegitimate reprints also exist with "inverted" spitfires, omissions of the state name "Nevis" and other printing abberations. They are occasionally marketed as "proofs".

Later research shows that this stamp from a souvenir sheet was a later forgery produced after the closure of the printer to deceive collectors, and the item was removed by Michel. The only legitimate imperforate versions produced were used entirely on commemorative maximum cards and no legitimate unused imperforate souvenir sheets exist. Also The colors on the forged souvenir sheets are incorrect compared to the original stamp issue.
