How can we improve the Stamps catalogue?(Update: 7-Feb)

Hello Colnectors!

as Stamp collectors know, currently colnect now have almost 222,222 stamps listed in our catalogues, with 5200 new stamps added over the last 30 days alone.

However, this exceptional growth meant that certain listings are quickly becoming unnavigatable to our fellow stamps collectors. And I have heard a number of user complaints/suggestions about how we could improve our catalogue system.

In response; I have decided to open a public forum thread where members can publically post their opinions and suggestions to our stamps catalogue.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve our listings of Stamps in our catalogues, feel free to post them here! Or you can Send me a PM! If you're happy with current status quo, do let us know too.

Current suggestions list: - quite a list isn't it?

● Group colonies of france into continents - this is possibly similar to Superseries suggestion still pending - this issue was also discussed here

● Separate country listings by continent

In my opinion, a major improvement would be to let the user choose his/her favourite sorting order for the listings. That is, I should be able to choose whether I want the items displayed according to the, say, Yvert-Tellier numbering order rather than the Michel. Of course, that can be done provided all of the above catalogue numbers are known for the yearly listing. If each item had a sequential number for every catalogue, e.g. 123400 for Yt #1234, then we would be able to display items in each of the available catalogue order, and that could even make unnecessary to have the exact catalogue number shown. Each of us would look at listings exactly as they see them in their own catalogue.

Good afternoon colleagues

It would also be interesting to see the tab, the number of perforations and/or lack thereof. I found some stamps from Spain in which the image is the same but changes the drilling by year of issuance.

The same happens also with France, the subject of colonies, Spanish colonies (Western Sahara, Sidi Ifni, etc..) Seals and charge (Plan Sur de Valencia, Barcelona, ​​etc..) Spanish catalogs that are apart from the rest of the time stamps and do not see a proper fit in the general catalog.

In the case of Spain, there are series that have been issued for a period of several years and not as one might reflect, at present I have not seen a fixed criterion. One possible solution would be to set the incluisión in the starting year of issue.

Dividing postage this way leaves the main stamp issues list (National Post Offices) uncluttered by the local posts etc and the envelopes, while allowing these to have an easily found location.

Stamps - Others NEW CATEGORY This is the cinderellas.

> Local posts that are fantasy or bogus issues not corresponding to an actual postal service, usually found unused. eg Sahara, GB Isles, Russian, Nagaland, Maluku

> Taxes - fiscals, revenue, duty, customs, fees, licenses, permits

> Advertising, Propaganda, Posters

> Decorative - Christmas, Easter seals

I do not think dividing countries on old colonial lines is appropriate in a modern international catalogue.

That would depend on how the official catalogues sort them by, because almost all stamp collectors world wide use a world-wide "standard catalogue" (e.g.Michel, Stanley Gibbons and/or Yvert & Tellier) and if they separate out countries from their colonial past, we are also obliged to separate them out to avoid either confusion, or clash of duplicated catalogue codes. E.g. Belgian Congo -> Congo-Kinshasa -> Zaire -> Congo-Kinshasa)

Voila, j'ai déja mis en ligne plus de 17 000 timbres, notamment toutes les anciennes colonies françaises avant indépendance. J'en suis à Vietnam, donc presque terminé...

Ouvrez les anciennes colonies françaises et vous verrez que c'est de la folie pour s'y retrouver!!!!

amigos collecionistas: soy nuevo miembro y llevo unos 15 dias estudiando el catálogo que me parece soberbio, fantastico.

Veo sin embargo que dia a dia se van incorporando nuevos sellos o nuevas caracteristicas de ellos. No me refiero a subir los sellos recien emitidos sino a la generalidad del catálogo. Por ello echo en falta un apartado de NOVEDADES que incluya los sellos recien subidos o las ampliaciones de la información. ¿No seria bueno que todos los sellos o las novedades permaneciesen durante un cierto tiempo por ejemplo 30 dias como tales NOVEDADES ?? De esta forma quien esté trabajando sobre un pais o un tema no tendria que recorrer paso a paso todos los años o todos los listados para encontrar o ver un nuevo sello o nuevos datos sobre los mismos.

Si por ejemplo yo subo un sello de Alemania Federal que no estaba en el catalogo, creando este apartado este sello estaria comop NOVEDAD durante 30 dias y los collecionistas podrian informarse directamente sin necesidad de consultar la larga lista de ese pais.

Tal vez ya existe, repito llevo solo 15 dias trabajando el catalogo, si alguien me lo informa pues bien. Si no existe crea que esta idea deberia ponerse en marcha, seria bueno para todos los collecionistas.

I agree with this, but it could also be extended to, let's say:

- Souvenir sheets

- Booklets

- Mini sheets

- FDC's (First Day Covers with stamps ONLY...)

- FDCk's (First Day Covers with booklets...)

- FDCb's (First Day Covers with souvenir sheets...)

You can check by all the stamps catalogues that they separate the stamp listing from the souvenir sheets listing or even the booklet listing....

Apart from this, i have other suggestion, not really around the stamp database, but more around the wants and collection listings:

- Why not make two separate listings, USED and NEW ITEM??? This could even be used to telephone cards, etc.

It's rather annoyng specifiy that on the listings, when you collect used and new items....

Another work around was a radio button to specify if i have new or used item for trade or on my list...

But, to me, a separated list would be proven better for management and organization....

But that's only my opinion......

I sent two messages with the new stamps to be published in the catalog, but are not published and do not have an answer why.
