Hi everyone,
I'm brand new to stamp collecting and recently inherited a small collection. Among the items are several USPS commemorative panes that are still sealed in their original USPS plastic sleeves, with what appear to be First Day Cover (FDC) envelopes included in the same packaging.
Some panes have the First Day of Issue marks on the actual stamps, while others don’t but do still include the FDC envelopes.
I’m trying to figure out the best way to catalog or list these items, but I’m unsure how these kinds of sets are classified. Are they considered:
A regular pane plus a separate FDC?
A special USPS-issued set with a unique catalog entry?
Or something else entirely?
I'm hesitant to open the packaging since they're untouched. Would it be better to keep these sealed for value, or should I open them to catalog the FDCs and panes separately?
Any help would be appreciated, including any pointers on how to find these in Colnect's database or whether there's a special category for this type of USPS release.
Thanks in advance for your guidance!
