- Malpelo Island, located in the Pacific Ocean area, is part of the Valle del Cauca Department. There are no human settlements on Malpelo Island and the information available so far indicates that there were never any.
One of the most visited islands in the Colombian Pacific by scientists and divers from all over the world,the conservation of the area and to prevent illegal and indiscriminate fishing of sharks, among other species, Malpelo island is permanently monitored by personnel of the Colombian national Navy.
In 1995 the Colombian Government declared Malpelo Island as a protected area in the category of Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora.
In 2002 the island of Malpelo was registered with the International Maritime Organization as a particularly sensitive marine zone.
The island was declared World heritage site, by the members of UNESCO on July 12, 2006. - 现在购买:
