The stamp shows the moment of the signing of the absolute independence of Cartagena.
In occasion of the anual UPAEP issue, titled National feasts, Colombia decided to dedicate this stamp to the Independence of Cartagena, event that occurred on 11 November 1811, when Cartagena de Indias declared its absolute independence from Spain, becoming the first territory of the current Republic of Colombia to make such a statement, and the second in South America, after Caracas. It was the beginning of a series of important events and which would cost a high price for having the audacity to face the Spanish Empire. It was ten years during which there would be both victories and defeats. It was a time of vital importance in which the destiny of freedom and emancipation of the American provinces would be forged.
This aspect provided the 11th of November 1811 with an unprecedented meaning in the history of Colombia, but at the same time made it an event different from the independence of other cities. Not because of the simple popular participation, because this one also took place in Tunja, in Mompox, in Cali, in Socorro and in Santa Fe, but because in Cartagena the people was the main actor and that, in last, would lead to the absolute independence. - 现在购买:
