The watermark Winged Wheel Type I, narrow and high and with decentralized hub, comes from the Fabriano paper mill of the Cartiere Miliani company where the paper was produced with the flat system; it has blurred and confused outlines, while the vertical distance between two wheels is 8 mm instead of 10 of the next two types. It exists both in sheets and in reels, identical to the crown type. CEI Catalogue: 89
The watermark Winged Wheel Type III, rounder and more regular and with centered hub, originates from paper also produced in Fabriano, in reels but with the round system, which allows a sharp and marked watermark.
It went into production in 1952. Being an asymmetrical figure, the winged wheel can assume 8 different positions on the sheet, which however are reduced to 4 depending on the vertical or horizontal format of the stamp.
