Transnistria is an unrecognized breakaway territory of Moldova and the de facto independent Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
The postage stamps (local stamps) of Transnistria are not recognised outside of the country and are valid only for domestic service within Transnistria.
International mail and mail to the rest of Moldova requires Moldovan postage stamps.
Illegal stamps starting in 1992 forward not produced within the republic exist.
Transnistria local stamps are privately produced with no firm safeguards against reproductions, purposely made "errors" and/or excessive numbers being produced to profit from collectors.
