Issued to make a recognition to the library, which in order to preserve the collections, order them and put them to the service of the public has contributed to the intellectual, social and educational development of the Colombians.
On February 20, 1958 the Bank of the Republic, headquartered in Bogotá, opened the doors of the library that took the name of Luis Ángel Arango in honor of who was the bank manager at that time and the great promoter for its opening.
The library known as BLAA is the largest public library in Colombia. The bibliographical collection has nearly two million titles covering all areas of knowledge.
The library, in addition to reading-, exhibition-, music-, collection-, concert-, thematic-, rare books-, manuscript- and multimedia rooms, has interlibrary loan services, books at home service and specialized attention to researchers.
