During the 14th and 30th of October 2011, the XVI Pan American Games were held in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The first Pan-American Games were in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina between 25 February and 9 March 1951, with the participation of more than 2500 athletes from 22 countries.
The Pan American Games, which are held every four years, are led by the PASO (Pan American Sports Organization), an institution comprised of 42 nations from North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
Colombia was present at the XVI Pan American Games, with a large delegation and ranked sixth with a total of 84 medals.
