- To modernise their navy Ottomans bought several ships from Europe. 4 torpido gunships ships were ordered in 1906 to shipyards of Schneider and Cie in Chalon-sur-Saone in France. These were delivered in 1907 and joined the Ottoman Navy. The post card shows one of them (Possibly Hamidabad) in shipyard in France.
These 4 ships formed 2nd Gunship filo and named "Demirhisar", "Sultanhisar", "Sivrihisar" 和 "Hamidabad".
Hamidabad was sank by Russians in the Black sea in 1916. Demirhisar was sank by its crew in Chios in 1915 not to surrender to the British; Sultanhisar was torpidoed in Marmara sea by Australian submarine AE-2 but repaired and served till 1928. Sivrihisar also served in the Dardanelles during WW1.
