- The large picture on the left shows the "Felsenmeer" (rock ocean) near Lauterlal (now part of Richenbach) in UNESCO Geopark Bergstraße-Odenwald. The rocks consist of hornblende-biotit-diorite (or more generally of quartz-diorite) and got their form by spheroidal weathering over the last 50 million years. The stones were used for construction work since the Roman empire, of which the area was part.
