- Hiliu arranged and recorded Queen Liliʻuokalani’s music as contemporary music or easy listening music, and done sociably in order to hand down to future generations. Hiliu’s freshman album releasing in December 2019.
Queen Liliʻuokalani was the last Queen of the Hawaiian kingdom. She succeeded to the throne as the Queen of Hawai‘i following the death of the former king and her elder brother, David Kalākaua on January 29, 1891. However, Queen Liliʻuokalani and the kingdom of Hawai‘i were overthrown by the provisional government which was assisted by the U.S. military on January 17, 1893. As a result, she abdicated her throne and Hawaiʻi was annexed to the United States.
Queen Liliʻuokalani composed a total of 165 pieces in her 79 years of life. On this album, we arranged and recorded Queen Liliʻuokalani’s music as contemporary, easy listening music and done sensitively in order to hand down to future generations. By sharing Queen Liliʻuokalani’s music, we hope you will become more familiar with the history and legends of Hawai‘i. - 现在购买:

- The CD contains 17 songs, with a total duration of approximately 48 minutes, which are intended to immerse the listener in a sound journey to a world without borders, as a shamanic experience. “Night Chants” transcends the established geographical limits, fusing melodies, rhythms, and instruments from the five continents. His fundamental inspiration comes from field recordings and natural sounds.
The book is bound in hard cover (with cover by Darwin Ruiz Ruiz), in 14×14 cm format, with 48 pages and color photographs. It contains an explanatory audio-guide, which includes a list of the instruments used in each composition. The text has an informative and didactic approach, dealing with historical, anthropological and mythological themes from different parts of the planet.
The illustration on the cover recreates a healing ceremony of the Navajo Indians, an essential part of their homonymous rituals, the “Night Chants”. In the foreground, a healer (“Medicine man”) flips a bellows in the air; His twist creates an opening between worlds, allowing the higher entity Yei Bichei to access ours and take away the disease, caused by evil spirits.
10 collaborators of Brazilian, Cuban, New Zealand and Spanish nationality participated in the recording, including the famous percussionist Cyro Baptista, who has played and recorded with artists such as Santana, Sting, Herbie Hancock and Paul Simon.
Night Chants include music and instruments used by Australian aborigines, pygmies from the Central African jungles, Amazonian indigenous people, New Zealand Maoris, North American Indians, Native Hawaiians, sub-Saharan ethnic groups from the Gulf of Guinea... and a long etcetera that covers more than 30 cultures and more than 100 different musical instruments.
Of great interest and richness are also the sounds of cultures such as the Maya, the Nazca, or the Mexica that, although extinct centuries ago, remain alive through their archaeological legacy: some of the instruments used in the recording are replicas of sound objects. pre-Columbian, even using an original archaeological piece from the Mayans, found in the jungle of Petén (Guatemala).
All the texts included in the book were written by Pablo Canalís, with the revision of Fran Molinero.
Some of the topics covered are: the Gordian knot, the archaeological sites of Nazca (Peru), Amazonian initiation rituals, the cult of the Mesoamerican gods Tezcatlipoca (Mexica) and Kukulkan (the Mayan Feathered Serpent), animistic rituals of the Navajo Indians, the discoveries of Captain Cook, the thought of the Japanese ascetics….
The project abounds in the informative and didactic aspects, and can be used as a learning tool by teaching staff in schools, institutes and universities.
