MAXIMIEN HERCULE
(10/12 / 285-02 / 310) Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maximianus
August II (04 / 307-11 / 11/308)
Maximien was born in Sirmium around 250. He has "low forehead, wrinkled face, trumpet nose, thick chin and neck, shaggy beard" 来自 "Les empereurs romains", op. cit., p.119. This description hardly resembles the portraits of the argentei who are stereotyped and not necessarily recognizable. Chosen by Diocletian to assist him, he was first Caesar, then august from April 286 and it was the Dyarchy. Maximien settled in Trier and had to fight against the barbarian invasions and the usurpation of Carausius in Brittany. In 293, at the creation of the Tetrarchy, he was seconded by Constance Chlore. Diocletian forces Maximian to abdicate on May 1, 305. He accepts retirement poorly and goes to support his son Maxence when he seizes Rome on October 28, 306. He resumes service as an august in 307 and helps Constantine to whom he gives his daughter Fausta in marriage. Maximien is forced to abdicate to the Carnuntum conference on November 11, 308. One last time, he resumes purple in early 310 in Marseille before committing suicide or being murdered. - 现在购买:
