As a basis for the design of the coin, Scottsdale settled on the Cisseru parrot, also called the Imperial or Dominican Amazon. The bird inhabiting only Dominica is an excellent choice to convey the distinctive features of a given country within the framework of the EU8 coin program. The Sisser Parrot is a relatively large bird: 46 centimeters in length and 900 grams in weight. This magnificent large bird also serves as the national symbol of the island of Dominica.
