In 1876 the state took over the municipal agricultural school of Wageningen and established a national agricultural school for the training of teachers at the agricultural wind farms and horticultural academies. From 1896 to 1904 it became the Hoogere Land- en Boschbouwschool and from 1904 the name Rijks Hoogere Land-, Tuin- en Boschbouwschool was named.
The school developed into an academic institution. In 1918 the further development into academic institution was ratified by law and the Rijks Landbouw Hooge school was founded. Opening date and official Dies Natalis was 9 March 1918. Now, 100 years later, the 100th anniversary is celebrated for a year with one of the highlights being the recognition of an official commemorative coin.
Wageningen University & Research
Wageningen University & Research is a largely English-speaking Dutch university in Wageningen. In addition to a university, the organization consists of a number of privatized research institutes of the Agricultural Research Service (DLO). These research institutes conduct application-oriented and non-profit research. They work on behalf of the government, the business community and non-profit organizations. Research is often conducted in collaboration between multiple research institutes with or without the university and often with external Dutch or international knowledge partners.
