The Australian Government and most of the population were unwavering in their support of Britain and her allies, and a huge wave of patriotism and support for ‘King and Country’ swept across the nation. Australia’s First Action The coin’s reverse features an Australian soldier running through vegetation while under fire during the fighting for Bita Paka wireless station. The inscription ‘1914 – AUSTRALIA’S FIRST ACTION’, a red poppy motif and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design.
