The words "WHEN THE GUNS FELL SILENT" is incused on the rim as a reminder of the hush that fell on Europe at this moment. Three poppies, meticulously crafted in red enamel, are soon to become the symbol of remembrance when Lt. John McCrae publishes hi immortal poem, In Flanders Fields, in 1919.
