A food label is a piece of paper, cardboard, plastic, or other material affixed to a packaging or being a packaging itself which is used to cover foods.
Browsing the Catalog
The Colnect Food Labels Catalog can be filtered from the Catalog drop-down menu by the following properties:
- Countries: The country where the food is made.
- Companies: The company, which produced the food.
- Foods: The kind of the food.
- Brands: The brand of the food label. If no brand is mentioned Generic is used.
- Shapes: The shape of the food label. Available options:
- 6-Angular (hexagonal)
- 8-Angular (octagonal)
- Circle
- Circle sector
- Half-circle
- Non-standard: Used for any shape not otherwise present in the list.
- Oval-top rectangle: A rectangle whose top is not straight but oval.
- Rectangle
- Rhombus
- Scallop
- Square
- Trapezium
- Triangle
- Packagings: The material the food label is made of. Current options are:
- Quantities: The quantity of food.
- Quantity Units: The measurement unit of food.
- Years: The first year of produce, if known.
- Themes: The motif themes on the food label. Multiple themes can be selected for one label. Only the themes from the Colnect Global Cross-Category Themes List can be used.
- Recently updated: Food labels where at least one piece of information was changed in the last 30 calendar days. The last change applied is used to determine the change age of the label. This can be further filtered by the last 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 calendar days.
- Newly added: Food labels added to the Colnect Food Labels Catalog within the last 30 calendar days. This can be further filtered by the last 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 calendar days.
- Import Log: A list of all New Item Forms (NIFs) that have been imported since the creation of the Colnect Food Labels category. It shows date, the person who created the NIF, the coordinator who imported it, the number of food labels imported, and the country of the food labels. Please note that it is not possible to find the food labels that were in the NIF, this information is not stored in the database.
The catalog also contains other properties to further describe the food labels:
- Name (60 characters): The name of the food label.
- Series: The series, if any, the food label belongs to.
- Variant: If a food label is marked as a variant, you can get a list of all variants of this food label by clicking on Click to see variants.
- Catalog Name: The name of the catalog used for the catalog number. Currently only Colnect Codes (Colnect's own numbering system) is used.
- Catalog Code: The Colnect Code consists of the ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2 country code where the label was issued, a hyphen and a consecutive 5-digit number. Example: DE-00087 (DE: ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2 for Germany, Federal Republic -: Hyphen 00087: Consecutive number). If the country in the catalog does not have any food labels yet, the first new food label gets the number 00001. Example: PH-00001 will be the first food label from the Philippines.
- Location: The town or city of origin of the food label. It must be in the country of the food label.
- Width: The horizontal width of the food label measured in millimeter.
- Height: The vertical height of the food label measured in millimeter.
- Quantity: The amount of food, usually printed on the label, if not "Various" is used.
- Description: A detailed description of the food label. This may include information on how to distinguish variants.
- Front Picture and Back Picture: The front of the food label must be pictured, the back is only required when the back side or back label exists. Please follow the Picture Guidelines.
