Currencies/Monegasque decime

From Collectors Collecting Wiki

Introduction

The Monégasque décime was a fractional unit of the Monégasque franc, used as part of Monaco’s historical decimal currency system. It represented one-tenth of a franc and served as an intermediate subdivision alongside the centime.

History

The Monégasque franc followed a decimal structure identical to that of the French franc. In this system, the décime functioned as a recognised fractional denomination equal to 10 centimes, or 1/10 of a franc. The unit remained part of Monaco’s monetary structure until the Monégasque franc was phased out in favour of the French franc and later replaced entirely by the euro.

Coins

Colnect Item Picture The décime formed part of the theoretical subdivision of the Monégasque franc. Like the centime, its value corresponded to the decimal organisation of the currency 1 franc = 10 décimes = 100 centimes. While the unit was included in the denomination system, actual coin circulation depended on the monetary policies of Monaco during different historical periods.

Currency

The Monégasque décime was officially defined as

1 décime = 10 centimes

10 décimes = 1 franc.

Legacy

The décime reflects Monaco’s long-standing alignment with the French decimal monetary tradition. Though the currency system evolved over time and was eventually replaced, the décime remains part of the principality’s historical currency structure.
